I am going to make two very direct and honest statements.
1. If you do not look how I want to look, lift what I want
to lift, live how I want to live, or enjoy how I want to enjoy – Your opinion
on those matters for me does not matter.
2. If you have not successfully guided someone to look how I
want to look, lift what I want to lift, live how I want to live, or enjoy how I
want to enjoy – your opinion on those matters for me does not matter.
Harsh? I do not think so. Realistic? Absolutely.
The reason I feel this needs to be said is because I feel
that in the realm of health and fitness, there are many different opinions,
ideologies, programs, formulas and products for success.
Fitness is like Religion; you can believe whatever you want
as long as it provides you what you are seeking. If it works for you, it is
worthwhile.
On that same token, there are about a dozen different mainstream
diets for each goal of losing and gaining whatever one wants.
I cringe every time I hear someone give out training or
nutrition advice that clearly has not worked for him or her. This is about as
intelligent as taking a treasure map from someone that never found the
treasure. No thanks.
Yet people still set
sail because the map was free.
Before you have an opportunity to call me a hypocrite,
understand everything I share is opinion. I reference when I feel necessary,
and I share what I hope to be thought provoking. Unless a concrete fact, I make
my opinion clear - which is of course open for interpretation.
I can be and have definitely been wrong, and I am aware of
that. My goal is to inspire different thoughts
perhaps not previously considered. Everyone is different, what has worked for
me may or may not work for you.
Consider where your source of information is coming from. Is
the source reputable? Have they accomplished or helped someone else accomplish
what you want? Do they have a vested interest in your success? Do you believe
them?
It is easy to take advice from many people and/or try to
include every tidbit of opinion-information you encounter on your personal
fitness and health journey. Ultimately, it will either help you or hinder you
if you are not selective.
I think it is better to pick and choose what information to
retain and apply, and what to dismiss.
